Aerial Circus Arts-From 28th March 2011

Aerial circus arts have becoming very popular activities in recent years with pop artists like Pink and Diana Vickers using the apparatus in concerts and in music videos. Aerial work is a fantastic way to 'get fit', its an all over body workout and provides particular benefit for core strength, upper body strength and flexibility. Freestyle Fitness will be offering classes in static trapeze, silks and lyra (aerial hoop) for both adults and children as well as speciality workshops throughout the year dedicated to specific skills that will enhance training.

All aerial arts classes will include an appropriate warm up and cool down, technical breakdown of moves and instruction on combining these moves into  fluid sequences. The beautiful art forms will challenge any participant of all levels as they learn to move gracefully around the apparatus. Be prepared to have fun and work hard.

Participants should come dressed in tight fitting clothes covering legs and stomach that allow freedom of movement. Please do not wear anything with belts, buckles or loose straps and please do not wear jewellery. Private tuition is available in all aerial art forms.

Static Trapeze- The static trapeze is a stationary bar suspending in the air by two ropes. Participants will learn to move from the floor to the trapeze and moves both above and below the bar and rope work will be included as your progress. No aerial experience is necessary to take part in beginner trapeze classes, however working on your upper body strength prior to and whilst attending classes will assist your progress. Next 6 week Beginner course starting 12th May.

Lyra (aerial hoop) - Freestyle Fitness will be using a large metal hoop suspended from two points. Participants of aerial hoop classes will learn to execute moves above, on and beneath the hoop. Like the static trapeze, the beginners lyra classes are suitable for those with no aerial experience. Next 6 week Beginner course starting 9th May.

Silks - Aerial Silks (or Fabrics) is a beautiful aerial apparatus that consists of two pieces of strong fabric that are hung together on a swivel and used to make beautiful shapes and poses. Students will learn basic locks, climbs, inverts and poses as well as use the apparatus to build strength and flexibility. Students are encouraged to try either aerial hoop or static trapeze before attending silks classes.
